Townsville's coastal waters support sea turtles, dugongs and shorebirds near the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. We are examining low-debris formulations, biodegradable shell casings and post-display fallout recovery across Cleveland Bay. Any firing barges would be positioned at verified distances from seagrass beds and marine reserves, subject to Queensland environment authority and GBRMPA evaluation. To reduce distress to pets, service animals and wildlife, the loud display would be confined to a single ~20-minute window, preceded by a 10–15 minute silent laser and light preview, with advance schedules published so owners can prepare.
